Noah Young Band

The Noah Young Band began in New Orleans in 2015, and is already making an impact in the local and national scenes with their high energy performances. Drawing from the past while blazing a trail forward, the group blends the earthy funk music well known at home with Young’s lofty ambitious original compositional style into a sound both familiar and fresh to fans of contemporary groove-oriented jazz.  As accessible as it is cerebral, the group evokes the perspective trick of an optical illusion in that the desire to get up and dance or sit down and listen can shift on a dime.

Comprised of some of the most talented and in-demand young players in the city, the band is made up of members of Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Maroon 5, PJ Morton, and Big Sam’s Funky Nation.  The flexibility of the lineup mirrors the versatility of Young’s compositions: equally as strong in a streamlined trio setting as in the full band lineup.   The Noah Young Band has performed at many premier New Orleans music venues including: Tipitina’s, The Maple Leaf, Blue Nile, Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse, and more.  Notable performances outside of New Orleans include: FIMU in Belfort, France (2019), Rudy’s Jazz Room in Nashville (2018), and Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington, VT (2017).

In 2019, they released their sophomore album Splinter on musician-run record label Bubble Bath Records, and it’s received steady airplay from local radio stations WWOZ and WTUL ever since. The 2nd single from Splinter (Six Million Ways To Die) was placed on the Spotify official “State Of Jazz” playlist where it has received over 20,000 streams.  With a new album (produced by Jamison Ross) already coming down the pipeline, big things are both just over the horizon and spaced throughout the distance for this up-and-coming creative force. The Noah Young Trio plays every Sunday night at Bacchanal Wine Bar in New Orleans.
